How to save the Gulf

Natural Power Concepts (NPC), a Hawaii-based alternative energy technology design and engineering firm, in collaboration with best-selling author Mark Victor Hansen, has a solution for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill

One of NPC’s technology concepts for permanently sealing a ruptured high-pressure pipe is on display at the new site, along with a video describing one of NPC’s new concepts for retrofitting oil tankers with special skimming apparatus to clean up the spill and salvage the oil that rises to the ocean’s surface. NPC’s mission statement is ‘to help solve the global energy crisis as one of the world’s leading alternative energy technology incubators.’ This mission has now expanded into the field of cleaning up after expensive mistakes by the oil and gas industry such as the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Two oil spill remediation technologies are demonstrated at http://www.HowToSaveTheGulf.com:

  1. How to cap the oil spill: this is a patent-pending device design featuring a probe filled with thermoplastic that can be heated to liquid state, forced into an expanding bladder, and then cooled to solidify and block the pipe.
  2. How to clean the oil spill: this is a concept for attaching a skimming apparatus to existing oil tanker vessels, to aid in oil clean up and reclamation

These concepts were developed by Natural Power Concepts (NPC) and have been submitted to the US Coast Guard for evaluation. NPC’s operations are focused on design, engineering, prototyping and testing of new innovations in renewable energy technology, then partnering with industry leaders to manufacture and distribute the devices through licensing and joint venture agreements. It is unknown how effective these solutions will be, however, and further testing and evaluation is required. It should also be noted that an attempt to ‘top kill’ the leaking well was already tried, by blasting the well full of golf balls and drilling mud to block it. However, the attempt proved futile, as the pressure of the oil and gas underneath was too high. Also with news that the drilling of the relief well to stop the leak is ahead of schedule, they may not have an attempt to test the new capping method.
