Following PHMSA approval, Enbridge Energy Partners restarts its Line 14

Enbridge Inc. has received approval to restart Line 14 from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) after the agency approved the required Restart Plan.

The 24 in., 318 000 bpd oil pipeline ships Canadian crude to Chicago area refiners has now resumed activities following a period of standstill after a spill, which was discovered on 27th July.

The shutdown meant supplies were diverted to meet the shortfall in Chicago, which led to gasoline prices rising on the Gulf Coast and in the northeast.

"Enbridge will continue to coordinate its efforts with PHMSA as necessary," the company said in a statement. "We will conduct site restoration in compliance with all government regulations and our own stringent safety and environmental standards."
