A planned overhaul of the hydrogen plant at Phillips 66’s Wilmington refinery caused flaring. A filing was made with the California pollution regulators as sulfur dioxide was released due to the work.
It has been announced that the India government is to offer financial support for the construction of a refinery in Cuba. Cuvenpetrol, a joint venture company between Cuba and Venezuela is proposing to build a 150 000 bpd refinery in the Matanzas area of the country. The plant is estimated to cost US$ 7. 57 billion.
Western Refining has agreed to pay New Mexico US$ 444 000 in penalties after emissions violations at its refinery near Gallup. A series of violations took place between July 2009 and March 2012. The Settlement has been made with the New Mexico Environment Department.
Repairs at the CVR Energy Wynnewood refinery were still underway earlier this month after a notice was filed with the US National Response Centre on 3rd July. The filing was made as the repairs caused a release of hydrogen sulfide.
Local officials to the Marcus Hook refinery are to announce details of the purchase agreement by Braskem America today (18th July). The refinery currently owned by Sunoco Inc. has been offline since it was shut down last year. The plant has been on the market since September 2011.
Valero Corp shut down the FCC unit at its Houston refinery on Thursday 5th July after a malfunction. An alkylation unit was also taken offline and an investigation is underway to find out the cause of the malfunction.
HollFrontier is planning to expand its Woods Cross refinery. The company are looking to spend US$ 250 million to add pollution control equipment to the plant in order to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by up to 90%.
A settlement has been announced over safety violations found at BP’s Texas City refinery in 2009. The company are now going to pay US$ 87.4 million in fines which, will actually help the company sell the facility which has been on the market for some time.
