Chevron Australia Pty Ltd has announced successful drilling in the Greater Gorgon area in the Carnarvon Basin offshore Western Australia. The Yellowglen-1 exploration well is located in the WA-268-P permit area approximately 250 km northwest of Onslow. It was drilled to a total depth of 2760 m using the ENSCO 7500 dynamically positioned, semisubmersible rig. Results indicate a gas column of approximately 137 m (450 ft).
Investments continue this year
Chevron Australia Managing Director Roy Krzywosinski said, ‘We welcome this latest discovery as a potential new source of supply underpinning the Gorgon project. Chevron plans to continue making investments in Australia on exploration, appraisal and seismic programmes in 2010.’
