Permasense opens Houston office

Permasense, a leading provider of remote monitoring solutions to the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry, has opened its first international office in Houston, Texas. Tom Champlin has been appointed as President of Americas to head up the operation.

Tom joins Permasense from Nalco Champion, bringing nearly 20 years’ experience in business development, marketing and sales in the downstream oil and gas industry. In this new role, Tom will be responsible for driving new business, developing existing client relationships, and building a local team to service the Americas region.

Peter Collins, CEO at Permasense comments, “The Americas represents an exciting prospect for Permasense to significantly expand its reach as part of our ongoing global growth strategy. As the energy capital of the US, Houston makes perfect sense as our first location outside the UK; we’ve been active in the region for a number of years, but our new office will enable us to provide on-the-ground support in our fastest growing market.

“Tom has an excellent background in client account management, as well as a proven track record in building, developing and managing a customer-focused team. His experience and skills offer a strategic fit for Permasense’s needs, and I’m confident that he will continue to build on our reputation for delivering high quality, reliable equipment.”

The North America market currently accounts for 40% of Permasense’s revenue. The US states of Louisiana and Texas alone are home to 35% of the country’s refineries, representing significant further opportunity for Permasense’s corrosion and erosion monitoring solutions.

Tom Champlin, President of Permasense Americas adds, “Crucially, this development will give our customers access to a dedicated team within their time zone, providing them with the confidence that we can respond rapidly to their needs. A key focus for the team will be ensuring that we continue to deliver the high levels of customer satisfaction throughout the purchase, installation and post-installation of our equipment that the industry has come to expect from Permasense.”

Permasense’s non-intrusive corrosion and erosion-monitoring system uses permanently installed sensors that continually measure the wall thickness of fixed equipment and quickly detect metal loss caused by corrosion or erosion. Users can monitor and analyse how the metalwork is coping with the demands placed upon it due to changes in process conditions, enabling the optimisation of corrosion or erosion mitigation strategies in even the most inhospitable and inaccessible environments, ultimately leading to enhanced production.
