SPP expands Norwegian operations

SPP Pumps, leading global manufacturer of centrifugal pumps and systems, has confirmed the expansion of its business in Norway, with the announcement of a partnership with Hillevag Elektro-Diesel AS - specifically for the oil and gas market.

With nearly 140 years’ experience in this sector, SPP is considered to be one of the world leaders in the design, manufacture, build and test of NFPA 20 fire pumps - providing both horizontal and vertical pump solutions for critical applications on and offshore. SPP also has a strong heritage in Seawater lift pumps, API 610 Process pumps, OH2 through to BB5 high pressure pumps.

Norway base

With such a varied range of pump solutions and some real optimism in SPP’s future expansion into the Norwegian sector, now is the perfect time for the company to set up base in Norway, as Ian Burrows (Head of Major Projects) explains:

“In the past 12 months SPP has been in discussions with many potential customers in Norway - Statoil, Teekay, Aker Solutions and Aibel - to name but a few. Future business opportunities are encouraging and our activities are attracting a high level of interest. In order to increase our efforts and ensure we meet customer demand in this region, we have set up a co-operation agreement with Hillevag Elektro-Diesel AS - who will support new sales, local packaging, testing and engineering services in Norway. We are excited about this partnership.”

Hillevag is a privately owned company, established in 1952. Its main office and workshops are in Stavanger, with other bases located at Kristiansand, Skien and Karmoy.

Hillevag's 12 000m2 Stavanger site hosts some 40 people, and is a centre of excellence for compressors, diesel generators and accessories for purchase and hire. Hillevag also has a historic background in pumps and offers a test rig operating at up to 500 kW. Its test facility has a dedicated area for lineshaft and submersible pumps, as well as a test loop for the API process pumps and a crane capacity of 10 t.

Ian continues: “At SPP, our ethos is based around providing expertise and solutions to customers for where it really matters - and the oil and gas industry is a prime example of how important getting it right really is. We want to give our Norwegian customers and colleagues the very best in pump solutions, and Hillevag was the obvious partner for us - with an outstanding reputation, well-located facilities and a team just as committed to doing the absolute best, we feel together we can develop some very positive opportunities.
