NIB has signed a 13-year DKK 182 million (approximately €24 million) loan with Sindal Biogas A/S.
The investment will co-finance the expansion of the Sindal Biogas plant in Sindal in northern Denmark, doubling biomethane output from 22 million Nm3/y to 44 million Nm3/y and enabling the potential addition of carbon capture and liquefaction.
The loan will support Sindal Biogas A/S in doubling its renewable natural gas production capacity. The project also includes the potential installation of carbon capture technology capable of permanently storing biogenic emissions or supplying Power-to-X projects. The expanded plant will process up to 800 000 t of agricultural and industrial waste annually, making it one of Denmark’s largest biogas facilities.
Thomas Dalsgaard, Partner at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), said: “We are pleased that NIB has provided financing for the expansion of Sindal Biogas. The financing enables us to double the plant’s biomethane production and potentially add carbon capture and liquefaction, delivering both renewable gas and biogenic carbon dioxide.”

This project strengthens energy security, reduces emissions and contributes to Denmark’s ambition of reaching 100% green gas in the grid, while also supporting the country’s efforts to reduce reliance on imported gas.”
Sindal Biogas is an industrial scale anaerobic digestion plant owned by CIP’s Advanced Bioenergy Fund I (CI ABF I), KK Invest and DBC Invest. The facility converts agricultural residues and industrial organic waste into biomethane and liquid carbon dioxide.
