EDF and Trinasolar ISBU sign battery optimisation agreements

EDF has signed two battery optimisation agreements with Trinasolar International Solution Business Unit (ISBU), covering a portfolio of new grid scale battery energy storage projects located in England and Scotland.

Under the agreements, EDF will use its advanced Powershift platform to manage the assets. This digital trading and optimisation system will provide long-term revenue certainty for Trinasolar ISBU while enabling the projects to deliver essential flexibility services to the UK electricity system.

The agreements cover two battery projects: the Ruby BESS project near Aberdeen, a 40 MW/80 MWh facility scheduled to become operational in October 2026 and the Chatterley BESS project in Gloucestershire, a 49.9 MW/99.8 MWh asset expected to reach commercial operation in March 2027. Both projects are designed with two hours of storage duration and will provide flexible capacity to support local and national grid requirements.

By storing electricity during periods of lower demand and releasing it when demand is higher, the Chatterley and Ruby projects will support grid stability, help manage price volatility, and enable greater integration of low-carbon electricity. Long-term optimisation agreements such as these also help provide the revenue certainty needed to support continued investment in flexible energy infrastructure across Great Britain.

The Ruby and Chatterley projects form part of EDF’s growing battery storage portfolio in Great Britain, reflecting the increasing role of energy storage in delivering a secure, flexible, and low-carbon electricity system.
