Aquila Clean Energy, developer of integrated and hybrid clean energy solutions, has connected a new solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the municipality of Medina del Campo, Valladolid.

The facility, built by Ferrovial, has a capacity of 17.85 MWp. It will generate enough clean energy to supply more than 10 200 homes each year and will prevent the emission of 9200 tpy of CO2.

German Garde, Construction Director at Aquila Clean Energy Spain, commented: “We are pleased to see another renewable energy project becoming operational in this region. This demonstrates that, through the commitment and joint efforts of companies, institutions, and local residents, we can make progress towards a more sustainable energy system that benefits everyone.”

During the development and construction phases of the project, the company carried out several initiatives to support the economic and social development of the area. These included delivering the ‘Renewable Energy in the Classroom’ course at several schools in Medina del Campo. In addition, specific training courses on the installation and maintenance of solar PV plants were organised, and a collaboration agreement was signed to support the training and employment of people in vulnerable situations.

Jorge de Miguel, Development and Construction Director at Aquila Clean Energy Spain, noted: “The commissioning of this plant is the result of our commitment to creating real value in the regions where we operate. At Aquila Clean Energy, we accompany the development of renewable energy projects with social and environmental programmes that directly benefit the local community.”

These social initiatives complement the biodiversity protection measures implemented around the plant, including the installation of pollinator shelters and nesting boxes, as well as various landscape integration improvements.

With the start of operations at this solar plant, the company is strengthening its presence in Castilla y León, where it has promoted and continues to develop projects in the provinces of Zamora, León, Soria, Palencia, and Valladolid. The company has developed, built, and commissioned 17 grid-connected solar projects in Spain, with a total capacity of 549 MW.
