In the framework of Qatar’s first solar tender, 3E provided advice and support to French oil and gas major Total who has won a 40% stake in the project together with Japanese Marubeni.
With 2 million bifacial solar modules, the 800 MW Al-Kharsaah solar plant aims to reduce the CO2 emissions of the country by 26 million t over the lifespan of the project.
As independent expert, 3E worked for Total Solar on the project’s bid submission by conducting independent long-term yield assessments on the various designs proposed for the bid.
Qatar’s first utility-scale PV project will be 10 km2 in Al-Kharsaah, 80 km west of the capital, Doha. It is expected to reach full capacity by 2022, covering about 10% of the electricity peak demand of the country.
