GE Vernova Inc. has signed an agreement with Electricity Supply Board (ESB) to supply 16 units of its 6.1 MW-158 m onshore wind turbines for the 96 MW Chleansaid wind farm in the Scottish Highlands.
The deal, which features a 20-year services agreement, uses turbines manufactured in Germany. With more than 1800 turbines deployed across a wide range of applications and over 38 million operating hours, GE Vernova’s 6 MW products deliver versatility, dependability, and reliable lifetime performance.
All the turbines at this project will use GE Vernova’s proven split-blade technology that allows logistically challenging projects to unlock the advantages of a larger rotor and greater energy production. This technology facilitates the transport of larger blades to challenging, remote locations, ensuring maximum efficiency and energy capture.
This project reinforces the long-standing strategic relationship between GE Vernova and ESB, further supporting the UK’s goal of decarbonising the power grid and expanding renewable capacity in Scotland. GE Vernova has also provided equipment for ESB through its Power and Electrification segments.
Gilan Sabatier, GE Vernova’s Chief Commercial Officer for Onshore Wind, international markets, noted: “We are delighted to extend our support for ESB by supplying turbines for the Chleansaid wind farm. This will be the first use of our workhorse 6 MW turbine in the UK, building on our existing UK footprint and installed base. By delivering our 6 MW workhorse platform with our proven split-blade technology, we are enabling ESB to maximise the production at this site.”
Paul Lennon, Head of Renewables and Scottish Renewables Board Member, ESB, added: “Chleansaid marks a significant milestone for ESB as our first wholly developed onshore wind project in Scotland and is a significant step in delivering our renewable energy ambitions. Working with GE Vernova, we are proud to move the project into construction and support the transition to a secure energy future.”
GE Vernova’s Wind segment’s onshore portfolio reflects a deliberate workhorse strategy – standardised, industrialised machines engineered for repeatable execution and long-term reliability. With more than 59 000 turbines operating globally, its experience informs every product it designs, manufactures, and deploys.
