Lirion Power, an Irish renewable power operator and developer, has acquired a 77 MW onshore wind portfolio from Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), a part of BlackRock.
The portfolio comprises five operating wind farms – Acres, Barranafaddock, Knockaneden, Ballagh, and Raragh 2 – across Donegal, Waterford, Kerry, Limerick, and Meath. The transaction is expected to close shortly.
The acquisition strengthens Lirion Power’s position as an active Irish owner-operator and takes its renewable energy platform to 200 MW, with further growth planned in the coming months. Lirion Power is backed by HitecVision and Reinova Partners.
Lirion Power focuses on improving existing assets and optimising the use of established infrastructure to deliver lower-cost renewable generation capacity in Ireland. The acquired GE and Enercon turbines, in the 2.3 – 2.85 MW range, are well suited to the company’s strategy of life extension, hybridisation, and repowering.
This approach will support:
- Reduced electricity prices for Irish consumers by extending the productive life and operational output of proven sites.
- Enhanced security of supply by keeping high-performing generation sites in operation and pairing them with battery storage and solar.
- Continued progress towards Ireland’s climate targets by maximising output from sites with grid connections, planning history, and established community relationships.
Donal O’Sullivan, CEO of Lirion Power, noted: “Maximising and expanding the contribution from existing assets is the lowest cost of power generation capacity. Our strategy is to ensure these assets can continue to generate clean, low-cost electricity long into the future, while maximising the use of existing grid connections by adding complementary technologies such as solar and battery storage.”
