OX2 has started construction of its Muswellbrook solar farm and battery storage project, located in New South Wales, Australia.
The start of construction was celebrated with a sod-turning ceremony and marks an important milestone for the project.
Muswellbrook is a powerful example of the energy transition in action as it is a former coal mine that is being transformed into a new source of renewable energy, combining 135 MW of solar power with 100 MW of battery storage to help optimise when electricity is delivered and support grid stability.
OX2 CEO, Matthias Taft, commented: “Projects like this are important because we need more renewable energy to reduce emissions and tackle climate change. But it is also about building a smarter, more flexible energy system for the future, and we are proud to be part of doing that here in Muswellbrook.”
At the ceremony, OX2 was joined by New South Wales Minister for Finance, Courtney Houssos. OX2 also thanked its co-development partner, Idemitsu Australia Pty Ltd, its landowners, and all local stakeholders, lenders, suppliers, and contractors involved in the project.
OX2’s Australia team was led by Country Manager, Stephen Symons, who helped to bring the project to this point. The company looks forward to seeing this former coal site take another step towards a renewable energy future.
