European independent power producer (IPP), R.Power, has energised its first standalone energy storage project in Poland and is now supporting grid stability.
The 5 MW/10 MWh Herby battery energy storage system (BESS) is the IPP’s first standalone energy storage project to be energised and serves as a precursor to an extensive rollout of operations across the company’s European BESS pipeline.
Herby BESS has secured an optimisation agreement with Entrix, a European leading energy trader. Entrix is now managing the trading and optimisation across all relevant electricity markets, while the qualification process for balancing services provision is ongoing. The partnership provides a blueprint for integrating innovative optimisation approaches across R.Power’s wider European BESS operations.
Herby began construction in 4Q25, having secured its long-term contract in Poland’s capacity market auction in December 2024 and also a supplementary capacity market contract organised in September 2026.
The project paves the way for R.Power’s advanced utility scale BESS projects – Jedwabno, Dziegielewo, Gdansk, Scornicesti, and Studina – to follow in suit as R.Power scales up its battery energy storage capacity across Europe.
Rafał Hajduk, Chief Commercial Officer at R.Power, commented: “Herby is the first standalone BESS in R.Power’s portfolio to reach the market. We look forward to working together with Entrix on this interesting asset with capacity market contracts and asymmetrical battery design. With a combined capacity of 1.6 GW/5.8 GWh across several large BESS assets in the pipeline today – including Jedwabno, Dzięgielewo, Gdańsk, Scornicesti, and Studina – we’re taking the next step on the journey to deliver the storage capacity Poland and Europe needs.”
