The final turbine has been installed at the Ecowende offshore wind farm, marking the completion of another major milestone in the energy transition.
For Van Oord, this achievement reflects years of work across multiple project phases and the expertise and dedication of the people behind the project. The company’s teams contributed to the installation of the foundations, inter-array cables, and scour protection, supporting the project from its early stages through to completion.
The milestone also marks the completion of a year-long campaign for Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel, Boreas. Since commencing work for Ecowende, the vessel has transported all 52 turbines from Eemshaven to the project site, demonstrating the future-ready capabilities of the company’s next-generation offshore wind installation vessel during a large scale turbine transport campaign.
With an installed capacity of approximately 760 MW, Ecowende will generate enough renewable electricity to supply around 3% of current Dutch electricity demand. First power was already generated in July 2026. The project also stands out for its ambition to combine offshore wind development with ecological innovation, generating valuable insights for future offshore wind projects.
Above all, this milestone demonstrates what can be achieved when expertise, innovation, and execution come together. From crews offshore to the project teams onshore, it is the commitment and collaboration of Van Oord’s people that make projects like Ecowende possible.
For Van Oord, this marks a great achievement delivered in close collaboration with Ecowende, Vestas, and all project partners.
