EWE awards DWT maintenance contract

Deutsche Windtechnik (DWT) has been awarded the contract for maintenance and further services at the Riffgat offshore wind farm. From 1 January 2027, the independent service provider will provide technical services for all 30 Siemens SWT-3.6-120 wind turbines for operator, EWE, for an initial period of two years. The contract includes three annual extension options and marks the return of DWT to a wind farm it serviced until the end of 2021. Built by EWE in 2013, the Riffgat off-shore wind farm was the first commercial offshore wind farm in the German North Sea and has a total installed capacity of 108 MW.
The new service contract covers a broad spectrum of maintenance and service activities. These include annual maintenance of the Siemens turbines, expert inspections for crane and access equipment, and active identification of optimisation potential at the Riffgat wind farm. Additional optional services are available, including remote fault elimination with second-level support, on-call troubleshooting and repair work, as well as extensive warehouse and spare parts management.
“With DWT, we have secured a strong service partner for the maintenance and upkeep of the Riffgat offshore wind farm,” explained Jantje Bolduan, Offshore Manager at EWE's Offshore Centre. “The fact that we are working with DWT again and can build on the existing project experience makes this partnership particularly valuable.”
DWT previously provided maintenance and servicing for the Riffgat offshore wind farm from 2019 until the end of 2021. At that time, the company became the world's first independent service provider (ISP) to maintain offshore Siemens SWT-3.6 turbines.
Achim Berge Olsen, CEO of DWT's Offshore Division, added: “We are extremely pleased to have won back Riffgat and to have prevailed in the competitive tender process. This project is another building block securing our company's positive order situation and consolidating our strong position in Siemens technology.”
The offshore operations for the Riffgat wind farm will be co-ordinated from Borkum, with the maintenance teams working from the customer's base on the island. During the winter months, troubleshooting will be carried out from DWT's service station in Emden, with teams transported to the turbines by helicopter when required.
