ERM, the world’s largest specialist sustainability consultancy, has been appointed by Bute Energy to support the development of the Lan Fawr Energy Park (LFEP), a major onshore wind project in Mid Wales.

With a proposed generating capacity of up to 368.5 MW from up to 55 wind turbines, LFEP is among the first projects to be brought forward under Wales’ new infrastructure consenting regime, representing an important step in the delivery of the country’s clean energy ambitions.

ERM was appointed due to its combination of strategic and technical expertise and proven track record delivering complex infrastructure projects. Having developed the project’s Scoping Report, ERM will now lead the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and strategic communications programme as the project progresses through the planning process.

James Milner-Smith, Bute Energy’s Development Director, commented: “LFEP is an important part of our ambition to help build a healthier, wealthier Wales powered by clean, home-grown renewable energy. Alongside generating renewable electricity, the project has the potential to create jobs, support local businesses, invest in skills and provide long-term funding for community priorities through its community benefit fund. We're pleased to be working with ERM as we develop the project and look forward to drawing on their expertise and track record to help deliver a project that creates lasting value for communities, the regional economy and Wales as a whole.”

Nick Hilton, Capital Project Delivery Lead for EMEA at ERM, added: “This appointment reflects the strong relationship we have developed with Bute Energy during the early stages of project development and the collaborative approach that has underpinned our work to date. As the energy transition accelerates, developers must navigate increasingly complex environmental, regulatory, and stakeholder considerations. By combining deep technical expertise with practical delivery experience, ERM looks forward to supporting Bute Energy in advancing LFEP and helping deliver environmental, economic, and energy security benefits for Wales.”
