Actis adds 244 MW/1141 MWh battery storage portfolio to Polish platform

Actis, a leading growth market investor in sustainable infrastructure, is acquiring two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects as it rapidly scales its recently launched Polish renewable energy platform.

The projects are being acquired from DRI, with one 112 MW/518 MWh project in Kozienice already acquired and ready for construction by Actis, and the other – a 132 MW/623 MWh project in Trzebinia – signed and set to complete once operational.

These projects will represent some of the first utility scale BESS projects to reach commercial operation in Poland, with a total 244 MW of power capacity and 1141 MWh of four-hour plus duration energy storage. Both assets benefit from a secured revenue base through a 17-year inflation indexed capacity market contract.

Building on Actis’ acquisition of Klara Renewables – a 171 MW onshore wind portfolio with approximately 275 MW of hybridisation potential, signed in July 2026 – these two assets support Actis’ integrated approach, combining renewable power generation with BESS to create a system-level portfolio that aims to mitigate volatility and maximise value capture across the power system while increasing Poland’s grid flexibility and renewable energy integration capability.

With Poland expected to retire approximately 18 GW of coal while adding 50 GW of renewables and 14 GW of gas capacity by 2040, the country’s structural transition away from coal offers significant growth opportunities for assets like BESS, particularly given electricity demand is forecast to more than double by 2050 due to industrial and transport electrification and economic growth. This transformation is underpinned by attractive financial mechanisms, including a strong capacity market providing long-term and stable cashflows, alongside robust corporate power purchase agreement demand.

Jaroslava Korpanec, Head of Central & Eastern Europe at Actis, commented: “The Central and Eastern Europe region has historically been underinvested in, and the need to drive decarbonisation and invest in independent energy supply is, in our view, absolutely crucial. Poland is a major European power market but a carbon-intensive one that needs to transition from coal to renewables while keeping the grid steady. These two projects will help build the grid flexibility required and, in doing so, support Poland in managing its energy transition, energy competitiveness, and resilience.”

Murat Cinar, CEO of DRI, added: “Battery storage is expected to play an increasingly important role in Poland’s energy system as the share of renewables continue to grow. We believe Kozienice and Trzebinia are strong projects that can provide significant flexibility to the grid and we are pleased to see them moving into their next stage with Actis. This transaction also reflects the strength, in our view, of DRI’s capability to develop and advance meaningful energy projects in Europe’s most important growth markets.”
