Energy Global,
R.Power has completed the delivery and deployment of all battery units at its flagship 150 MW/300 MWh Jedwabno battery energy storage system (BESS) in north-eastern Poland.
A total of 64 battery containers and 32 containerised medium-voltage transformer stations have been deployed on site, with the construction consortium of Nomad Electric and ESIX on track to complete works ahead of connecting the project to the grid in December 2026.
Construction at Jedwabno is moving from first works to energisation in around 10 months. The project achieved this pace while routing an underground high-voltage cable line through the city of Torun, where urban and administrative constraints make such works especially demanding.
Having secured a 17-year capacity market contract in December 2024, a long-term optimisation deal was signed with Axpo in January 2026, construction commenced in February 2026, and an approximately PLN 270 million [€64 million] project financing facility with Siemens Financial Services and Erste Group was secured in June 2026. The project’s seamless progression has helped build momentum behind one of Central and Eastern Europe’s largest utility scale energy storage pipelines. R.Power’s BESS portfolio in operations and under construction in Central and Eastern Europe currently stands at 0.9 GW/3 GWh, with an additional 0.7 GW/2.8 GWh of commercialised, ready-to-build projects.
“The timely completion of battery unit delivery and deployment marks another crucial milestone for Jedwabno BESS,” said Marcin Pajewski, Board Member and Chief Technical Officer at R.Power. “The project continues to chart the way forward for utility scale BESS assets in Central and Eastern Europe. Having set the standard for commercialisation and financing, the project is now setting the standard for highly efficient construction and delivery.
“Poland's energy system is changing at a rapid pace, with renewable sources already accounting for over 30% of Poland's electricity generation in 2025. R.Power is committed to accelerating the deployment of large scale energy storage in Europe as a critical enabler of the flexibility needed to maintain reliability and resilience in a decarbonised power system.”
