Hidoelectrica invests in energy storage at hydropower station

Hidroelectrica is investing 296.8 million lei in a battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Iron Gates II hydropower plant. The new BESS project will have an installed capacity of 64 MW and a storage capacity of 434.76 MWh, becoming the largest battery storage facility in the company's portfolio.
“The energy transition means building the infrastructure that allows us to efficiently capitalise on renewable energy and flexibly respond to the needs of the National Electricity System. The BESS Iron Gates II project is a strategic step in this direction and confirms Hidroelectrica's commitment to invest in the technologies that will define the energy of tomorrow,” said Iulius-Dan Plaveti, CEO of Hidroelectrica.
