Exergy International, a leading provider of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power generation technology, has launched Exergy USA Inc., a new subsidiary based in Houston’s Energy Corridor.
The new company marks the first step in Exergy’s long-term strategy to expand its presence in the US, supporting both the rapidly growing geothermal sector and the adoption of waste heat recovery (WHR) technologies across North America.
The launch coincides with Exergy receiving the 2026 Geothermal Rising Tech Award for its Radial Outflow Gemini Turbine, developed to meet the larger unit sizes and demanding operating profiles required by the emerging generation of utility scale geothermal projects. The Geothermal Rising Tech Awards recognise technologies with the potential to reduce geothermal project costs and risks, improve efficiency, and unlock new development opportunities.
Together, these milestones position Exergy to help address one of the most critical challenges facing the US energy sector: delivering scalable, cost-competitive, and reliable clean power solutions to meet rising electricity demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, data centres, and industrial electrification.
Luca Pozzoni, Deputy CEO of Exergy International, commented: “America’s next-generation geothermal industry is transitioning from technical validation to commercial deployment, and this shift requires flexible power conversion technologies and expanded supply chain capacity. The launch of Exergy USA, the recognition of our Gemini Turbine, and our investment in a robust domestic supply chain underscore our long-term commitment to the US market. Exergy is bringing proven technology, engineering expertise, and decades of geothermal experience to help scale a competitive domestic geothermal industry.”
Exergy’s Gemini configuration extends the company’s Radial Outflow Turbine (ROT) technology to meet the requirements of large scale geothermal developments, including enhanced geothermal systems (EGS).
Capable of generating up to 60 MW with a single turbine, Gemini represents one of the largest ORC turbine configurations developed for geothermal power generation. Its larger unit size allows developers to reduce the number of turbines required, lowering plant footprint, simplifying plant design, and reducing overall turbine costs compared with traditional multi-turbine configurations.
The technology builds on Exergy’s proven ROT design, with more than 60 turbines installed worldwide.
Exergy USA Inc. will provide a local base for business development, customer service, and partnerships across North America.
Its location in Houston’s Energy Corridor places Exergy close to one of the world’s largest concentrations of energy engineering, advanced manufacturing, and oil and gas expertise. As next-generation geothermal increasingly builds on technologies and skills developed in the oil and gas sector, Houston has become a natural hub for the industry’s next phase of growth.
The new subsidiary represents the first phase of a broader US expansion strategy. Exergy is also planning the gradual localisation of manufacturing for key power plant components, including turbine systems. Potential manufacturing locations have already been identified through sites available within Exergy’s wider industrial group. The initiative is intended to create a resilient domestic supply chain, reduce equipment lead times, support local content requirements, and provide closer technical support to US customers.
Exergy has approximately 600 MW of installed capacity worldwide, including around 550 MW in geothermal applications, bringing experience from projects across multiple geographies and resource conditions.
Through Exergy USA Inc., the company will pursue growth opportunities across the Americas with a dual focus on geothermal power generation and WHR applications. In geothermal, Exergy will support next-generation utility scale projects while in WHR, the company sees significant opportunities across industrial facilities and emerging data centre infrastructure, where ORC technology can convert otherwise wasted thermal energy into valuable electricity.
Luca Pozzoni concluded: “Our objective is to make ORC solutions an increasingly scalable, repeatable, and competitive source of clean power in the US. As energy demand continues to grow, we see significant opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce energy costs, and support decarbonisation through both geothermal and WHR applications.”
