LichtBlick completes commissioning of its largest solar park to date

In Mühlhausen (Thuringia), approximately 71 000 solar modules were installed on an area of ??about 37 ha. The plant generates around 45 GWh of solar power annually. This amount is sufficient to meet the needs of over 13 000 households. A dedicated substation was built for feeding the electricity into the grid.

The project is part of LichtBlick’s accelerated expansion of its own generation capacity. The company has announced its intention to develop this area into a central component of its business model and to invest around €600 million in its own generation and storage capacities by 2030. With this second photovoltaics (PV) project in the current fiscal year, the company is continuing its ambitious course.

Marc Wallraff, CEO of LichtBlick, commented: “The commissioning of our largest solar park to date marks an important milestone for LichtBlick. It impressively underlines the company’s strategic direction and our commitment to actively shaping the energy transition. Our own generation facilities form the basis for supplying our customers with renewable energy in the long term.”

The project development was undertaken by LichtBlick subsidiary, solargrün. The project was preceded by an intensive planning and preparation phase, during which it was closely co-ordinated with the city.

Dr Johannes Bruns, Mayor of Mühlhausen, stated: “The city of Mühlhausen is consistently pursuing its path towards sustainable, independent, and environmentally friendly energy production. This new solar park – together with the projects of the Mühlhausen municipal utility company – is another important step in this direction. With this solar park, we are making Mühlhausen even more independent from external energy sources. Local renewable energy generation is the key to a resilient, secure, and affordable energy supply for our citizens.”

GOLDBECK SOLAR is involved in the project as the general contractor.

Alexander Gutsch, Head of Sales Regional Center Central Europe, explained: “The Mühlhausen solar park was a challenging project. The complex site structure, the topography, and the requirements regarding soil conditions and the absence of unexploded ordnance necessitated close co-ordination among all parties involved. We are therefore all the more pleased that we successfully achieved the project goals together with LichtBlick. This demonstrates what is possible through collaborative partnerships.”

LichtBlick and GOLDBECK SOLAR have previously completed a successful joint solar park project in Blaubeuren (Baden-Württemberg).
