Zelestra begins construction on 38.5 MWdc Detershagen solar project in Germany

The plant is the company’s second project to enter construction in the country, following the 27.5 MWdc Klevenow solar plant, which was recently fully energised.

Awarded through Germany’s EEG tenders, Detershagen will comprise approximately 62 000 solar panels and is expected to generate around 40 200 MWh of clean energy annually, helping avoid approximately 13 300 tpy of CO₂ emissions. The clean energy will support the energy needs of homes and businesses in the Rostock area.

Construction is expected to support around 55 jobs, with full commercial operation anticipated by 2Q27.

Mathias Kuenicke, CEO Germany at Zelestra, commented: “Momentum is building in Germany. With Klevenow now in operation and Detershagen entering construction, our projects are moving quickly from plans to delivery, and we are proving our execution capabilities. Recent contract wins for new battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid projects mean even bigger builds ahead, and our team is ready for the challenge.”

Detershagen is one of two further solar projects, alongside Zelestra’s first German BESS project, due to enter construction in 2H26.

The company recently closed a major tolling agreement with Centrica, that enables a 297 MWh BESS project in Lower Saxony, and a hybrid solar-plus-storage PPA with Salzgitter, that will see two projects built in Brandenburg and Thuringia with a total capacity of 200 MWdc (solar) and 100 MW/300 MWh (energy storage).

Zelestra is progressing a pipeline now exceeding 2 GW of solar, hybrid, BESS, and wind projects in the country. The company has 70 employees in Germany, with offices in Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Rostock, and a senior leadership team with decades of experience delivering clean energy projects in the country.
