BOOM Power, the developer behind Drove Lane solar farm, has secured planning permission for the 49.99 MW solar development on land east of Kenley House Farm, near Wawne, in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council approved the planning application in October 2026, marking an important milestone for the project following a detailed planning process examining the proposed design, landscaping, ecology, flood risk, and associated infrastructure.
The application was navigated through the planning process by Lighthouse Property Holdings Ltd, acting on behalf of BOOM Power as the project owner and developer.
The approved scheme will comprise ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) panels with an installed capacity of 49.99 MWac, alongside transformer substations, underground cabling, perimeter fencing, CCTV, internal access tracks, and supporting infrastructure. The development also incorporates landscaping, biodiversity net gain measures, and a dedicated ecological mitigation area.
The project has been designed to accommodate renewable electricity generation while taking account of the surrounding landscape and local environmental sensitivities. The planning consent includes conditions covering construction management, drainage, flood risk, landscaping, biodiversity, and the eventual decommissioning and restoration of the site.
A key component of the scheme is a dedicated ecological mitigation area, supported by habitat management measures designed to benefit bird species associated with the Humber Estuary Special Protection Area and Ramsar site. These provisions will help minimise disturbance to wildlife and support the long-term management of habitats alongside the development.
The approved landscaping proposals include the introduction and maintenance of hedgerows, shrubs, and trees to help integrate the solar farm into its surroundings. Further measures address construction activities, lighting, and the protection of ecological features, with requirements set out through the planning conditions.
Flood risk and drainage have also been important considerations in the design. The approved measures include raising solar arrays and sensitive infrastructure in identified areas, alongside open-mesh boundary fencing to allow water to move across the floodplain.
Together, these measures establish a framework for the development, with requirements in place to manage the site’s environmental considerations throughout construction, operation, and eventual restoration.
Mark Hogan, Founder of BOOM Power, commented: “Securing planning approval for Drove Lane solar farm is an important milestone. The approved scheme reflects the detailed work involved in developing renewable energy projects that respond to the characteristics of their location and the needs of the surrounding environment. At Drove Lane, this has included careful consideration of local ecology, habitat management, landscaping, and flood risk. The planning consent provides a clear framework for taking the project forward while addressing these important considerations. We are pleased to have reached this stage and look forward to progressing the next steps with a focus on securing grid connection timelines through the ongoing grid reform process. This will be an important step in establishing a clear route towards delivery for the project.”
With planning permission secured, BOOM Power will progress Drove Lane solar farm through the next stages of development, working in accordance with the approved plans and planning conditions.
