Shortly after receiving approval (Autorización Administrativa Previa) for the 169 MW Olmedilla solar project this October, Hive Energy can announce it has received both environmental and planning approval for Olmedilla’s sister site called Sabinar. Sabinar adds another 169 MW to the collection of projects planned in Cuenca, Spain and is planned to be followed by a third project, Sabinar Extension, which would add a further 83 MW of capacity.

The Sabinar project is planned to cover an area of 333 hectares with construction anticipated in summer 2021. Once completed, the collection of three projects will generate 421 MW of clean, renewable energy significantly contributing to Spain’s Energy Strategy to achieve 100% renewable electricity generation by 2050. The three solar parks together mark the continued roll out of Hive Energy’s 2.5 GW pipeline of solar projects worldwide.

Back in Spring, Noy Fund concluded the purchase of Olmedilla as 100% project owners. Hive Energy continue to own 100% of Sabinar and are currently exploring options as to how to take the project forwards.

Luis Martinez Hermida, General Manager Spain, said:

“Hive Energy’s belief is that renewable energy generation is the most important thing that is going to happen to our planet over the next 50 years.

“Reaching this milestone for Sabinar is another promising step on the journey to combatting climate change and delivering our 1.5 GW pipeline of large-scale solar projects in Spain.”
