International law firm Clifford Chance advised The Rise Fund, a global impact investing fund managed by alternative asset firm TPG, on the acquisition of approximately 1 GW of solar PV projects from the Changzou, China based Trina Solar.

The solar PV projects included in the transaction are currently operational, under construction or in the late stage of development across Spain, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. They will serve as the first solar PV projects within the portfolio of newly created Matrix renewables.

Jeremy Connick, Partner at Clifford Chance said: “It has been a real pleasure to support TPG in this innovative transaction. To complete a complex and sizeable transaction against the broader market backdrop is a testament to the patience, diligence and creative structuring of a very collaborative team.”

Clifford Chance fielded a team from London and Madrid that combined jurisdictional and product expertise. The team was led by Jeremy Connick (London), Charlotte Madden (London) and Jose Guardo (Madrid). They were principally supported by Joshua Baxter (London), Pablo Cancelo (Madrid) and Leo Rudolph (London) as well as a tax team from London and Madrid including Nicholas Mace (London), Lina Le Roux (London) and Fernando Escribano (Madrid).
