WSP, the engineering and professional services consultancy, has been ap-pointed as Owner’s Engineer on the Dumat Al Jandal 400 MW Wind Farm in Saudi Arabia, the country’s first utility-scale wind farm that will be the biggest in the Middle East when completed.

The project marks a major step for Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP), in which its goal is to increase the overall dependence on renewable energy and reduce the nation’s dependence on the oil industry.

As Owner’s Engineer, WSP will be responsible for both engineering and design activities and the management, coordination and administration of the wind farm, as well as the construction phase. WSP’s role on the project will continue until the completion of the entire plant and its facilities.

The wind farm, jointly owned by EDF Renewables and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), consists of 99 Wind Turbine Generators for a total installed capacity of 415 MW.
