Energy Global,
During the state visit of Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to Germany, RWE and UAE partners signed two agreements: a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding offshore wind between RWE and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, and a letter of intent (LOI) between RWE and ADNOC regarding future LNG supplies.
The agreements reinforce the growing economic and energy relationship between Germany and the UAE and reflect the ongoing dialogue between RWE and UAE companies, as well as their shared interest in supporting the development of renewable energy opportunities and enhancing energy security in Germany and Europe.
Under the MoU, RWE and Masdar intend to consider joint participation in German offshore wind auctions in 2027. This agreement has an indicative investment value exceeding €3 billion and builds on Masdar and RWE's long-standing partnership, reinforcing the UAE's role as a committed investor in Germany's energy sector and deepening bilateral co-operation in clean energy development.
Offshore wind is set to become one of the cornerstones of Germany’s energy system, combining large scale renewable electricity generation with a high degree of reliability. With stronger and more consistent wind conditions at sea, offshore wind can make a significant contribution to a secure, climate-friendly, and competitive power supply. Germany’s ambitious offshore expansion targets underline both the scale of the opportunity and the importance of strong partners.
Dr Markus Krebber, CEO of RWE AG, added: “Offshore wind will play a central role in strengthening Europe’s energy security, accelerating decarbonisation and delivering reliable electricity at scale. Germany offers significant potential, and strong partnerships will be essential to turn that potential into future clean energy projects. We are therefore pleased to take another step with Masdar, a valued partner with whom we have built a successful, long-standing co-operation from London Array to Dogger Bank South. Together, we want to bring our complementary strengths and experience to the German market and support the country’s energy transformation with secure, sustainable, and affordable power.
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, said: “Masdar has been investing in offshore wind for more than a decade, building deep experience across some of the sector’s most significant projects in the UK and Europe. From London Array to Baltic Eagle and Dogger Bank South, we have seen first-hand what can be achieved by combining long-term investment with strong partners and world-class technical expertise. Our partnership with RWE brings together complementary experience and a shared focus on disciplined execution, and we look forward to applying that expertise to new opportunities in Germany.”
