Energy Global,
Vestas is introducing the V182-7.2 MW turbine to ensure customers can succeed in the evolving energy landscape.
The V182-7.2 MW is built on the proven EnVentus platform to deliver enhanced energy production when it is needed the most. The demand for affordable, secure, and sustainable energy continues to grow in an uncertain world, where successful energy projects must deliver strong economics while performing reliably under grid constraints and volatile market conditions.
The V182-7.2 MW increases annual energy production (AEP) by up to 6% and lowers the levelized cost of energy (LCoE) compared to the V172-7.2 MW depending on site conditions.
Equipped with a larger rotor while maintaining the same rating as its predecessor, the V182-7.2 MW features a larger rotor-to-rating ratio with a specific rating of 277 W/m2 which improves the turbine’s capacity factor by up to 2% compared to the V172-7.2 MW. This enables a greater share of power generation in lower wind speeds during periods when electricity prices are typically higher, improving capture prices by up to 3%, easing grid congestion and supporting stronger long-term returns for project owners and investors.
Felix Henseler, Vestas’ Chief Technology and Operations Officer, noted: “The V182-7.2 MW is designed to deliver consistent, high-performance output that supports strong project economics and long-term bankability for our customers in an evolving energy environment, where predictability and financial resilience are critical to project success. Built on the proven EnVentus platform, this turbine reinforces our commitment to continuous platform evolution through targeted design enhancements that create meaningful customer value while maintaining the reliability of a validated platform. The V182-7.2 MW also underlines our ability to efficiently scale competitive solutions that enable us to deliver affordable, secure, and sustainable energy to communities across the globe.”
The V182-7.2 MW is globally applicable. It is particularly well suited for low-to-medium wind sites across Europe, Australia, South Africa, as well as North and South America. However, with the EnVentus platform already installed in more than 25 countries, it is relevant across a much broader range of markets.
Built on the established EnVentus platform architecture, the V182-7.2 MW reinforces Vestas’ long-term commitment to platform continuity. The EnVentus platform leverages proven system designs from Vestas’ 2 MW, 4 MW, and 9 MW technologies. With more than 15 GW of installed capacity globally, EnVentus provides a mature foundation for continued platform evolution through incremental enhancements that deliver customer value while maintaining operational certainty.
