Flender expands wind generator production with new site in India

Energy Global,

Renewable energy depends on powerful wind turbines – and at the core of every turbine is the drivetrain, with the generator transforming rotational motion into electricity for the grid. To support this growing demand, Flender has inaugurated an additional generator production site in India.

As a leading system supplier to the global wind market, Flender – through its Winergy brand – brings together comprehensive expertise across the entire drivetrain, offering gearboxes, generators, direct drive segments, couplings, and multibrand drivetrain services.

The new production site in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, reinforces the value chain of Flender’s generator business and expands its global presence. The opening ceremony was attended by customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders from across the wind industry value chain.

This strategic investment is a significant step in Flender’s initiative to expand its wind business in India. At the same time, the company continues to localise the supply chain, including integrating winding operations, to enhance manufacturing capacity closer to its customers. By expanding its presence in India, Flender aims to improve responsiveness, reduce lead times, and further reinforce its reputation as a reliable and trusted partner for the wind industry in India.

Joerg Sieber, VP Wind Generators at Flender, commented: “The inauguration of our new generator site is an important milestone in the growth journey of our Winergy business in India. It reinforces our long-term commitment to our customers and to the whole wind industry.”

Vinod Shetty, Country CEO of Flender India, noted: “The new facility will support the increasing demand for wind power solutions, while also contributing to local industrial development and skilled employment. This investment continues the successful localisation efforts at our Indian locations and underscores Flender’s broader commitment under the Winergy brand to accelerate deployment of renewable energy.”
