Nadara, a NextGen independent power producer (IPP) with operations in Europe and the US, has completed an acquisition in the UK of the 48 MW Bettyhill Phase 2 wind farm, from international developer Eden Renewables. The transaction builds on Nadara’s UK portfolio, strengthening its leading position in one of Europe’s top onshore wind markets.
Located in Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands, Bettyhill Phase 2 wind farm will comprise up to 10 wind turbines. Construction is expected to begin in 1Q27, with commencement of operation expected in 4Q28.
The transaction is part of Nadara’s growth ambitions in the UK, through both development and selective additions of assets that complement its existing portfolio, including taking consented projects through to financing, construction, and operation.
A strong programme of community engagement has been central to Bettyhill Phase 2 since the earliest stages of development. Eden has put in place a community benefits package which Nadara has committed to honouring. It includes an exceptional opportunity for the local community to own up to 20% of Bettyhill Phase 2, with a local electricity discount scheme and an innovative school and education programme. Nadara’s close alignment with Eden’s community-focused approach was an important factor in the transaction, and Nadara will continue this positive relationship with the local community throughout construction and operation.
The wind farm was unanimously consented by the Highland Council in February 2024, who praised it for its community engagement and benefits.
Jorge Martinez, Chief Growth Officer at Nadara, responded: “This acquisition demonstrates our growth ambitions both in Scotland and the UK, complementing our strong development pipeline. Bettyhill Phase 2 is a high-quality, fully consented project, and we are grateful to Eden for the work they have done to bring it to this point. With a strong UK market, full of potential, Nadara will continue to develop, build, and operate energy projects with a strong connection with the communities we work with.”
Ross Wolhuter, Head of Development of Eden Renewables, added: “We’re delighted that Nadara will build and operate Bettyhill Phase 2 wind farm. We share the same values and commitments to community engagement, benefits, and shared ownership. We’re confident they will build on the many years of work Eden has put into making this an exemplary project, promoting shared community ownership and contributing to the Highlands economy and Scotland’s energy security.”
