Sonnedix, a global renewable energy company with 12 GW of total capacity, has acquired two solar photovoltaic (PV) assets in Italy totalling 54 MW from EOS ReNewable Infrastructure Fund II, managed by EOS IM.
The transaction increases Sonnedix’s operational portfolio in Italy to more than 1.3 GW, strengthening its position in one of Europe’s fastest-growing energy markets.
The two projects, Macchiareddu (46.5 MW), located in the Province of Cagliari in Sardinia, and Aprilia (7.5 MW), located in the Province of Latina in Lazio, are fully operational, delivering clean, reliable solar energy to the Italian grid.
Italy is a core market for Sonnedix, where the company continues to grow through acquisitions and development, while enhancing its portfolio through investments in hybridisation and battery energy storage systems (BESS). In July 2026, Sonnedix acquired a 260 MW BESS portfolio in Tuscania, a transaction underscoring Sonnedix’s commitment to building a more resilient and flexible grid in Southern Europe.
Mario Volpe, Chief Growth Officer, commented: “This acquisition builds on the strong pipeline of growth we have developed in Italy over the past year and is a clear step forward in our strategy to expand our operational capacity in the country. Our relationship with EOS is genuine and has already demonstrated real value through the speed and quality of this transaction. We are grateful for the trust and confidence placed in Sonnedix, and we remain committed to continuing to grow our portfolio in Italy.”
Giuseppe Maronna, Managing Director Italy, added: “Our operations in Italy have accelerated in 2026. This year alone we have celebrated milestones including, surpassing 1 GW of operating capacity, expanding our battery storage capabilities, and securing a significant volume share in Italy’s Energy Release 2.0 mechanism. There is far more to come from our Italian portfolio, and this acquisition is testament of our continued progress.”
