DTE Energy has started operations at its 132-MW Fish Creek solar park near Sheridan, Michigan, the US. The project adds a new, clean source of Michigan-made energy as DTE works to deliver reliable power while keeping bills as affordable as possible. The US$268 million development was fully funded by customers who voluntarily participate in DTE’s MIGreenPower programme, thereby adding a new source of power generation without raising costs for customers. The solar park can generate enough energy to power approximately 30 000 homes, while delivering significant economic benefits to Montcalm County and Bushnell and Evergreen townships.

Matt Paul, President and Chief Operating Officer, DTE Electric, commented: “Our customers expect us to keep the lights on and keep bills as affordable as possible, and bringing new generation like Fish Creek online is part of how we deliver on that commitment. Fish Creek adds more Michigan-made energy to our system while supporting local jobs, generating new tax revenue, and delivering lasting benefits for the communities that helped make this project possible.”

Fish Creek will generate tens of millions of dollars in additional tax revenue, supporting schools, first responders, roads, veteran and senior citizen services, and more. The solar park also created hundreds of local jobs during construction and will provide participating landowners with a reliable source of supplemental income.

In addition, Bushnell and Evergreen townships each received US$330 000 through Michigan’s Renewables Ready Communities Award, a grant available to local governments that host large scale renewable energy projects. The townships plan to invest the funding in town hall and fire station renovations, along with other community improvements.

Fish Creek is part of DTE’s broader plan to meet Michigan’s growing energy needs with a diverse mix of resources. DTE currently has 20 wind parks and 37 solar parks across Michigan, which together generate enough clean energy to power nearly 1 million homes. The company is committed to continued growth of this clean energy portfolio on its journey to net zero carbon emissions. In fact, DTE’s 2026 Integrated Resource Plan includes an additional 15 GW of renewable energy by 2042.
