Terrawatt, the renewable energy development platform of the Donati Group, has received authorisation from the Municipality of Moscufo, in the province of Pescara in Abruzzo, to build Diomede, a 6.297 MWp agrivoltaic plant. Diomede follows Terrawatt’s first plant at Monte San Vito and is a step up in scale as the company moves its pipeline across central and southern Italy towards construction.

The plant will combine renewable electricity generation with continued agricultural use of the land. The project will feature single-axis solar trackers, with the land beneath and around the panels remaining available for pasture and fodder cultivation. Once operational, Diomede is expected to generate around 9575 MWh of renewable electricity a year, avoiding an estimated 2500 tpy of carbon dioxide and 65 000 t over its expected 30-year operating life.

“Diomede shows our development pipeline turning into increasingly large scale projects. Securing authorisation in three months, in a permitting system as complex as Italy’s, is a real achievement for the team and brings us a step closer to construction. As part of the Donati Group, we pair a dedicated focus on renewables with the Group’s long experience in construction and infrastructure, and we intend to build on that as we grow our portfolio across Italy,” said Patrizio Donati, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Terrawatt.

Construction is expected to take approximately 12 months, with operations scheduled to begin in 1Q28. The plant will connect to E-Distribuzione’s new Gallo primary substation, and Terrawatt intends to apply for support under FER X, Italy’s incentive scheme for renewable electricity generation, subject to the scheme’s eligibility requirements and procedures. The scheme is designed to support renewable electricity generation and contribute to Italy’s decarbonisation objectives.
